Golden Choices at the Globes

This past Sunday, the Golden Globes brought out some of the finest (and unfortunately some of the worst) in formal wear.  I have perused many websites and magazines looking for dresses that truly stood out for me but discovered that understated elegance is hard to find at these events! Every female is attempting to ‘outdo’ the other which results in some ridiculous, over the top ensembles. Many end up looking like they’re attending high school prom…

So rather than feature both the best and worst dressed of the bunch, I thought I’d focus solely on the elegant- this blog is about the beautiful things in life, after all. =)

My favourites:

Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt in Dolce & Gabbana

Emily is a new favourite of mine! Pictured here with fiancé John Krasinski, she looks so feminine and pretty in the muted pink. I love the slim cut of the dress and how she didn’t over accessorize. Simple and pretty.

Colin Firth's wife, Livia Giuggioli

Livia Giuggioli in Vintage Christiana Couture

Not only did Livia Giuggioli look stunning in this re-purposed wedding dress by Christiana Couture, she made an eco-friendly and sustainable choice by going vintage! I chose this dress as one of my favourites before reading about the sustainable bit, and now I like it even more. The couple created a gorgeous black and white effect on the red carpet.

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson in Marchesa

I’m loving the lines and structure of this dress. It really does look fabulous on Kate! The fabric looks as soft as butter which nicely contrasts the hard, architectural feel of the design. The asymmetrical line at her hip is lovely and unique. Gorgeous!

Courtney Cox

 Courtney Cox in Victoria Beckham

Courtney Cox is not an actress I would normally pick for best dressed, but she looks stunning here. I am shocked that I like a design by Victoria Beckham! The simplicity of this dress is perfect, with just a touch of detail in the belt at her waist. It’s a nice change from all the frou-frou we’re accustomed to seeing at award shows.
