While the headlines have been filled with a famous golf player and his 13+ mistresses, Parent Trap’s 90lbs of walking disaster and oops! she had another breakdown, let’s take a moment to recognize the actors who produce art.
In a world where ‘celebrity’ tends to gets more press, I feel we should pay homage to real talent.
The epitome of class and elegance, Cate Blanchett is a true talent. Her successful film career is backed with multiple awards for performances on stage. She manages to keep her private life.. private and has a stable marriage with her husband, with whom she co-chairs the Sydney Theatre Company.
Quote from Cate in Vanity fair “I didn’t set out to get somewhere. I thought it might be nice to work. But you just have to have a very accurate internal barometer with your own finger as the dial pointing to success and failure. The film industry is so noisy you have to find little quiet places to keep experimenting—otherwise, exit stage left. But the noise doesn’t interest me; the work does.”
Gotta give love to a real Canadian girl. Rachel McAdams has been thrust into the spotlight while still maintaining her integrity and down to earth attitude. Rachel lives in Toronto near where she grew up and rumour has it, uses public transportation and rides her bike whenever possible. Talk about not letting fame and success get to your head! Plus, how can we ever forget this moment when The Notebook won best Kiss?? Swoon! Here’s hoping her and Ryan Gosling end up together again.
Check out Rachel in January’s issue of Vogue.
By now, most females have fallen in love with him as Jim on ‘The Office’, and if you haven’t, you will. One of my favourite movies this year was the charming, hilarious and loveable ‘Away We Go’, with Maya Rudolph. In 2009, John also worked on his own movie ‘Brief Interviews with Hideous Men’, for which he wrote the screenplay ( based on the book) and directed.
Love this guy!
Seemingly, Kate Winslet can do no wrong! After the success of Titanic, both Kate Winslet and Leonardo Decaprio could have easily faded into the background, but they both managed their success and fame and followed up with revered performances. Kate starred in two acclaimed movies last year, The Reader and Revolutionary Road, and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a former Nazi concentration camp guard. Throughout her career Kate has stayed humble and has managed to avoid the ‘celebrity’ trap of hollywood.
Have to include one of my favourite actors on this list! James has recently starred in movies such as Atonement, The Last King of Scotland and Wanted. Both Atonement and The Last King were nominated for Academy Awards and Wanted launched James into Hollywood’s spotlight. He and his wife Anne-Marie worked together on ‘The Last Station’, which tells the story of Tolstoy’s last years and stars Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer. The Last Station is scheduled for release in the United States in January 2010. The best thing about James McAvoy is that he’s a good Scottish bloke, and still acts like one. He and his wife own a small apartment in North London that they’ve had for years. James frequents the Underground in London and performed in the Apollo Theatre last spring. He is a truly gifted actor who seems to have maintained normalcy in the everyday with his equally talented wife.
